Pig Diseases – Learn How To Support Pig Intestinal Tracts And Prevent Diseases – Get Informed Now!
Intestinal diseases are common in pigs at all ages and production stages in the processing chain. Piglets, for example, often suffer from diarrhea and swine diseases due to coliform bacteria or necrotizing enteritis, while dysentery and PIA in fattening pigs or salmonella and gastric ulcers in sow husbandry are the triggers. The causes of pig diseases and intestinal problems are very varied and complex – from bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens, to environmental influences, weaning, moving houses or feeding errors to inadequate hygiene management. Often it is a combination of different factors.
The problem: if the intestines are not working properly, the feed cannot be digested and utilized sufficiently. The consequences are a lack of nutrients, poorer feed conversion, reduced daily weight gain and a longer fattening period. In addition, the intestine plays a crucial role in the body’s immune defenses, since a large number of antibodies are formed in the intestinal epithelium. When the intestinal mucosa is damaged by diarrhea, it becomes permeable to mycotoxins and other pathogenic substances. For the animal, the consequences of intestinal disorders mean reduced well-being, pig diseases and, in the worst case, death, for the farmer high financial losses.
For these reasons, special attention must be paid to intestinal health in pig production and pig diseases. Prevention is better than cure! Gastrointestinal health can be stabilized and optimized primarily through dietary measures such as phytogenic additives.
